1799 medical hold

What is a 1799 hold? In California, the 1799 medical hold law allows physicians or other licensed staff to place a patient on a 24-hour hold, if the patient comes to the emergency room or acute care setting for care; and is then discovered to also have a psychiatric problem that requires attention. If a 5150 application cannot be completed by anyone available, a 1799 hold can be placed on the patient by physicians or other licensed staff who provide emergency medical care in general acute care hospitals, in order to detain them for 24 hours. 1799 medical hold
